Incredible moment stinky giant skunk scurries along the pavement in the middle of North London

A GIANT skunk caused a big stink scurrying along a pavement — thousands of miles from its usual habitat.

The stripey critter paused at a bus stop at the crack of dawn as a stunned commuter said: “F***.”

Lauren O’Hara, 34, was on her way to work when she spotted the black and white beast shuffling towards her.

The retail worker said: “At first I thought it was a cat.

“Suddenly I realised it was a skunk and I lost it.

“I couldn’t believe it.

“The way it stopped at the bus stop, I thought it might be hopping on with me.”

The nocturnal omnivore, more at home in North and Central America, then vanished round a corner on Monday in Muswell Hill, North London.

Lauren dubbed it Pepé Le Pew after the amorous cartoon skunk.

Sun man Andy Robinson found a suspicious-looking poo at the scene yesterday but no Pepé, who may be living wild in a nearby nature reserve.

When scared, skunks emit a smell — and they can also direct a stream of noxious liquid from their anal glands.

Locals were wary yesterday, including Lilli Miles, 18, who said: “I’m scared I might get sprayed.”

The RSPCA confirmed the bushy-tailed creature in our video was “definitely a skunk” and urged anyone who sees it to report it to them.

Rare sightings include a whole colony in the Forest of Dean, Gloucs, in 2009, and one at Colchester last year.
